MOJO Assessment 1 – April 2016

MOJO Assessment 1 – April 2016 – John Napier

Based on a story on an interview that you conduct with an expert in any field.

Subject : An interview in the form of a tutorial with retired radio news director Mr Frank Avis discussing his experiences and requirements for aspiring radio journalists.

Audio Interview duration: 19 minutes 55 seconds.

INTRO: Australian radio news director Frank Avis has covered a huge variety of news stories, too numerous to mention them all. His radio career spanned 42 years. Frank is now retired but he still has a vibrant mind of a radio journalist with knowledge going all the way back to 1954 when he started in radio right up to when he retired in 1996. I caught up with Frank in March 2016. He still has that mentorship about him wanting to help and guide the less experienced and journalists to be equipped for their careers. He started by exclaiming composite programming is essential to integrate Talk-Music and News, making up the unique sound of a radio station.

Intermediate question and exclamation during the interview:

What type of person should take on the role of radio journalist?

And how can you prepare yourself?

——————————————————

Authenticity of a story must be 100 percent. Sometimes the journalist needs to verify, ignoring the white noise.

Interview concludes with a sample of his news read.
